Workshop
The AI and Immortality Roleplay: Negotiating Memory, Care and Power
Workshop description
Generative artificial intelligence now makes it possible to create interactive digital representations of deceased individuals, from “griefbots” that simulate conversations with loved ones to reconstructed historical figures used in museums and public settings. While these technologies offer new ways to shape legacy and remembrance, some consider them deeply unsettling – with disagreements emerging not only across societies, but even within families themselves. So how do we navigate the ethical minefield of the digital afterlife industry? Led by scholars Katarzyna Nowaczyk-Basińska and Tomasz Hollanek, you’ll participate in a role-playing workshop that will leave you with a concrete decision-making framework for thinking about what should happen to their own data after death and how to approach these questions with loved ones, community leaders, and even historical or religious figures.
