Geoffrey Hinton earned his PhD in AI from Edinburgh in 1978, followed by postdoctoral work at UC San Diego and a faculty role at Carnegie Mellon. He later joined the University of Toronto, becoming Professor Emeritus, and worked half‑time at Google from 2013–2023. A pioneer of backpropagation and deep learning, he has made major contributions to neural networks and received numerous top scientific awards, including the Turing Award and the Nobel Prize for Physics.
